The vision for Kingsclere Vets was born many years ago, when a young girl learnt the sad news that the latest addition to the family, a beautiful black Labrador named Pip, had a rare, debilitating and potentially life-threatening disease.
Laura Knapp, the small child in question attended every veterinary consultation and tended to Pip’s needs with conscientious care. Pip went on to have a long and happy life. Laura discovered her calling and from that day forth was determined to become a vet who would provide the best care possible for all her patients – both pets and their humans.
Today Laura is the proud owner of Kingsclere Veterinary Surgery, a different kind of vets. The Kingsclere team provide state-of-the-art care, and a wide range of preventative and curative treatments to ensure the best possible wellbeing of your pet throughout all stages of life.
As an independent Veterinary Surgery we can offer a very personal service, taking the time to ensure every pet and pet-owner receives the time and attention they deserve.
Owner & Veterinary Surgeon Laura grew up in Northumberland before moving to Liverpool to pursue her veterinary studies, graduating in 2016. After completing her degree, she spent three years working in East Sussex, gaining valuable experience in both small animal and farm practice. In 2019, she moved to Newbury to join her now-husband Jamie, where she continued working with exceptional veterinary teams. Throughout her career, Laura had always dreamed of owning her own practice. She devoted two years to the meticulous planning, development, and setup required to bring her vision to life, and in January 2024, that hard work paid off with the opening of Kingsclere Veterinary Surgery. With a particular passion for Emergency and Critical Care, Laura is dedicated to delivering the highest standard of treatment, particularly in urgent situations. This focus is why offering an out-of-hours service at her practice is so important to her. Outside of work, Laura and Jamie are kept busy managing their four horses, two dogs, and a hand-reared cat, all while maintaining their 300-year-old thatched cottage. With such a full household, life at home is always lively and never dull!
Assistant Veterinary Surgeon Graduating from the Royal Veterinary College in 2018, Matt began his career in the West Midlands, where he spent three years gaining valuable experience in general practice. His passion for animal welfare then led him to a role at a rescue centre, where he provided essential care to numerous animals and rehomed two of his three dogs during his time there. Matt joined Kingsclere Vets, drawn to the practice’s independence and state-of-the-art facilities. He was eager to contribute to a team that prioritizes the well-being of every pet, and the resources available at Kingsclere have allowed him to expand his expertise while continuing his mission of delivering the highest standard of care to his patients. Outside of work, Matt enjoys exploring the countryside with his dogs and staying active by playing rugby, making the most of his time in the great outdoors.
