For pets over 8 years old, dental procedures include pre-operative blood tests and intravenous fluid therapy (IVFT) to ensure their safety under anaesthesia. The blood tests provide valuable insights into organ function, particularly the liver and kidneys, which process anaesthetic drugs. This allows us to tailor the procedure to meet your pet’s individual needs, ensuring the safest possible treatment.
IVFT helps maintain stable blood pressure and circulation during the procedure, ensuring proper oxygen delivery to the organs and supporting recovery. These additional measures are included to provide the best possible care for pets over 8 years old undergoing dental treatment.
Your vet will assess your pet’s needs and determine the appropriate level of dental care, whether it’s a Scale & Polish, Level 1, or Level 2 procedure.
For dogs, both Level 1 and Level 2 procedures include extractions when necessary, nerve blocks, x-rays, and post-operative pain relief. For cats, full mouth x-rays are standard for all three levels of dental treatment in addition.
